application launching failures

nope, I just checked...one of the applications I tried to start was  
Firefox and it's an Intel application.

Wouldn't work anyway...I'm betting sudo would need to be launched and  
I don't think OS X can spawn processes, hence my "becoming trapped".   
I tried logging out and it wouldn't let mek; it just froze with the  
wallpaper showing until I held the on/off button down.
