OmniWeb 5.10.2 now available

by Troy on October 26, 2010

Just a quick note to let you know that we're happy to announce OmniWeb 5.10.2. We've been quiet on the OmniWeb side of things for a while now but there have been a number of improvements we'd like to share. These changes include improving compatibility with sites that use browser detection and that contain unicode characters in the URL. It fixes various issues with services on 10.6, the print dialog, the tab drawer and corrects cookie session issues some people were seeing. We've addressed a few performance and stability issues as well.

Every now and then I try to go back to plain ol’ Safari. I can’t do it.

Many thanks for keeping OmniWeb alive!

I got 5.10.2.

This browser repeats abnormal termination in my environment.
In version 5.10.1, such crashes had not occurred.

My environment;
?Power Mac G4 / dual 1.25GHz
?2GB memory
?Mac OS 10.4.11

Though I threw omni-web’s .plist file away, It doesn’t improve at all.

Oops!! Now crash again and again!!

OmniWeb is still the best browser.

I’m another one who can’t switch from OmniWeb. It’s by far the best RSS reader I’ve used.

So does this update solve the problem where the drawer gets disconnected from the window? It started happening after I started using Spaces in 10.6.

Great news, thanks for keeping OmniWeb up to date.
With 5.10.2 I can even log in to eBay again (no more ‘please allow cookies’ messages) :-)
OmniWeb continues to be my #1 browser.
Thanks for being passionate about productivity

The last great browser that just works like we all want it to. Kudos to everybody at OmniGroup for continuing to support and refine Omniweb. It still is the best real world browser for OS X. No muss, no fuss. It just works!! Thanks again!!

I always liked Omniweb, but this latest release continually crashes on my Mac 10.4 PPC system.  I first noticed it crashed when attempting to load a flash-based game on Facebook.  However, it is also crashing on Omnigroup’s own website.  That’s pretty bad.

I would really rather have my older version back, if that’s possible.  For now, I will have to revert to Safari, but I sure miss my good ole lightweight Omniweb.

Nyanpei and Scott,

We’ve fixed some compatibility issues with Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger) for OmniWeb 5.10.3. You can test the new release by visiting our OmniWeb sneaky peek downloads page.

Hope this helps!

Ken: Thanks for the update. I’m still happily running 10.4 on PPC and appreciate the ongoing support.

OmniWeb has been a bit of a stranger to my Mac OS X Applications folder until I saw this blog entry and decided to give it a whirl once again, after having set it aside some time ago (for reasons I can’t quite recall now). I’m running OmniWeb on Snow Leopard, and it seems to load up quickly and provide a no-nonsense browsing experience.

I love the thumbnails in the sidebar that show the currently open windows in the tabs. There’s nothing like it that I’m aware of.

I also got the Delicious bookmarklet for Safari to work just fine on OmniWeb as well, so now I can enjoy bookmarking to my Delicious.com account. Niiice. ;-)

It’s great to hear that you guys are continuing work on this browser - it’s a real blessing to have this for the Mac :D

Glad to see acknowledgment of issue with Tiger-equipped Macs. Version 5.10.2 is unusable due to constant crashes. Looking forward to official release of 5.10.3.
