OmniOutliner for iPad sells 10,000 copies in first three weeks

by Ken Case on June 2, 2011

Thanks to all our customers for your amazing show of support for serious iPad productivity apps!  Three weeks ago we launched OmniOutliner for iPad, and I'm very pleased to announce that we sold our 10,000th copy of the app yesterday.

More importantly, our reviews on the App Store are averaging four stars and we've been hearing great things about the app from all of you:

@stanlemon: @kcase your crew really knocked it out of the park today with @OmniOutliner for the iPad. Bravo!

@rwilcox: Omnioutliner iPad is so much more than I ever imagined. Never been so blown away.

@PaulWestlake: Used @OmniOutliner on the iPad in my first meeting today. Wow... This is going to replace so many of the apps on my iPad. Stunning. Buy it!

@JustOrtiz: OmniOutliner for iPad was the reason I wanted an iPad when it first came out. Well worth the wait. It's finally made the iPad what I need

@jdriscoll: Spent some time with OmniOutliner for iPad last night and was blown by the 1.0. Great work @omnigroup.

So with over 10,000 sales and great reviews it looks like version 1.0 is off to a great start!

But version 1.0 is just where our apps start, it's not where they end:  today we're putting the final touches on a version 1.0.2 update, which fixes a number of bugs and adds a few minor enhancements, such as autoscroll for dragging rows and document sorting by title.

And we won't be stopping at version 1.0.2 either, of course. Many of you have also asked us for a better document management interface and for automatic document synchronization, so those are some of our top priorities for the next few updates.  We've been inspired by the improvements Apple has made in the iWork apps earlier this week (yay, folders!), and we're also really looking forward to learning on Monday how Apple's upcoming iCloud service might fit into the picture.

…and all that said, I just got the word from QA that version 1.0.2 looks ready to go, so I'm off to go submit that now. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and thanks especially for all the great feedback over these first few weeks! Please keep it coming: we're looking forward to continuing to make this app better and better with each release. As always, you can reach me by leaving a comment here, or by sending me a message on twitter (where you'll find me at @kcase).

I hope that Omni Group hasn’t shifted *all* of its resources to iPad development… a handful of us still use Macs and have waited literally six years (!) for OmniOutliner 4… unfortunately at a certain point, one begins to wonder if “vaporware” might not be an inappropriate descriptor.

Congrats!  I love the new app.  Being able to have my critical outlines with me at all times is truly awesome.  Can’t wait for future versions and capabilities!

Yes! OmniOutliner is in my workflow since the first day and is fast, efficient and flexible. You say that you’ll improve with updates, as always! All your apps only get better and better with the time. For me OmniOutliner is my main tool for a lot of works.

Half year, now is incoming Lion and iOS 5 and iCloud, maybe it’ll find a new “system file” in the iPad and the iPhone, and I’m sure that you update all your apps.

I want more, with Lion new OmniOutliner for the mac, OmniFocus with forecast and new UI..

And last wish OmniOuliner for the iPhone, now pages, numbers and keynote are universal, once you start to using OmniOutliner you wouldn’t stop using it! That’s my case.

Congrats!

I’ve owned Omnigraffle on my Mac at home for years and absolutely love it.  Unfortunately, I’m stuck with SmartDraw on a PC at work ... it truly sucks.  I only wish I could get OmniGraffle on the PC… Now that the Mac is Intel, maybe a port to the PC is in the future? (Please).

If the iPad version is too complex to work on the screen of the iPhone, perhaps just the ability to open, sync outlined docs on iPhone, and ability to create new simple docs and simple edits, like to do lists with checkboxes, links, and ideally simple media insertion. I use an iPhone and use the desktop app everyday, but relatively simply. Thanks.

This new version look genius. Looking forward to being able to take my planning on the road with this app. Will there be any discounts for desktop users?

Omnioutliner is one of the best applications I’ve used ever.Period. I use it to schedule my whole life. Which means that if I don’t have access to it I’m lost. With the success of iphone, I can’t understand why there isn’t yet a mobile version. I hope that now that the application has been developed for IOS the iphone version can be forthcoming.

I just went over to the Japan iTunes Store, with a view to buying the app, but the fact that all 4 reviews of the latest version give it 1 star gave me pause. It looks that the most recent update causes a shift in orientation of the iPad causes text to shift position/appear in mirror image, or something of the sort. I suspect this might be a specific problem with Japanese text, and that you might not be monitoring the Japan Store very carefully, so I thought I ought to give you warning here that trouble appears to be brewing in the East!

Thanks Rick, we’ve had a report of this but wasn’t having luck reproducing, we’re still looking at it.
