OmniFocus for iPad v1.3 has been approved!

by Ken Case on May 17, 2011
OmniFocus for iPad v1.3 updates Forecast Mode: Never spread yourself too thin. Enable Calendar integration to see your hard landscape events alongside your overdue and due soon OmniFocus actions. Use the View options menu to show your items with a start date. Reschedule your projects and actions—with just a tap or two—to keep your days balanced.

This update also includes full screen note viewing and editing, improved support for screen mirroring, and a number of other user interface and workflow improvements.

[NOTE: If you're reading this within a few hours of approval, your local App Store might not have the update yet. If that happens, just wait an hour or so and then try again: it will be there soon!]

We love hearing from you! You can reach us by tapping Contact Omni (in the Gear Menu above the sidebar), sending email to omnifocus-ipad@omnigroup.com, tweeting to@omnifocus, or calling 1-800-315-OMNI or +1 206-523-4152.

Forecast
  • Forecast mode now integrates calendar events into a convenient timeline. Use the View options menu to configure which calendars appear on the timeline, and the range of hours for which events are displayed. (This feature requires iOS 4.0 or later.)
  • Forecast mode now includes an additional section for viewing items starting on the days of the upcoming week. Use the View options menu to hide or show this section.
  • Tapping “View” on a Due Reminder alert now takes you to the Forecast screen, showing you all items which have become overdue at once.
Editing
  • The Note section of the Editor now includes an expand button. Tap on the expand button to view or edit your notes full screen.
  • When searching in the Project and Context pickers, Smart Match terms are underlined in the search results.
  • When assigning a Project or Context to an Action, search results are now presented in Library order rather than alphabetically.
Workflow
  • The application’s badge counts the union of overdue, due soon, and flagged items. Items that are both flagged and overdue or due soon are no longer counted twice.
  • Folders’ remaining count incorrectly included Single-Action Lists.
  • Dropped Contexts are only visible in the Context move popover when the current View options are set to All.
  • Dropped Folders are only visible in the Project move popover when the current View options are set to All.
  • Errors from automatic sync sessions no longer interrupt you with an alert. Instead, the Sync button is badged. Tapping the Sync button will display the error alert and offer to retry the sync.
User Interface
  • OmniFocus takes advantage of hardware screen mirroring when available.
  • When mirroring your iPad 2 on a secondary display, OmniFocus now shows your gestures—taps, pinches, swipes, and all—so that your viewers can follow along.
  • Untitled items are now correctly represented in Project, Action, and Context lists.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause incorrect sorting of a Perspective’s actions when grouped by a date.
Inbox
  • The Inbox badge count no longer includes completed items.
  • Items blocked by a future start date are once again excluded from the Inbox badge count.
  • Paste and New Action are now available from the contextual menu for the Inbox header.
  • Fixed a bug which prevented you from moving an item to the top of the Inbox.
Review
  • Projects within the Review sidebar are sorted in Library order.
  • Fixed a bug where launching OmniFocus into Review mode with the Inbox selected incorrectly resulted in an empty list of projects needing review.
  • When there are no remaining Projects requiring review, the plus button no longer gives multiple choices for creating an Inbox item.
Stability
  • Fixed a crash which could occur when entering the background and using Bonjour syncing.
  • Fixed a rare problem which could lead to a crash if OmniFocus received a memory warning while in landscape orientation.
  • Fixed a regression where Email Debug Info (to the OmniFocus support ninjas) was inappropriately using the in-app mail client.

Well done on the update guys! I have been looking forward to having start dates in the Forecast view for a while now. Thank you!

This update is incredible. It is clear that you guys are committed to this platform. I am the director of a small non-profit art center in central Utah. I have two interns and one part-time employee. We run the organization on Omni Group apps. Thank you for working so hard. Can’t wait for Omniplan to hit the ipad.

If you did not buy focus for iPad until today, now there is no excuse anymore. And I’m far from being a fanboy. The forecast view is excellent. Well done.

Great work! I really appreciate your improvements, especially the forecast! It looks like you have listen to your customers carefully :)

This is really good! Now you have the total overview of your appointments and (soon to be) due next actions. If the event timeline could be added to the coming iphone forecast view in some fashion, that would be even better!

Thanks so much for this - I would have been very happy with the text expansion for an action but never imagined it would fill the entire screen which is so useful. To get all the Forecast calendar integration is inspired - it’s going to help me in an area where it hadn’t yet dawned I needed help!

Great work by all at Omni :-)

Excellent work as always!!

I have been wishing for an integration of start dates into forecast ever since I listened to MacSparky (http://www.macsparky.com/) and Merlin Mann (http://www.merlinmann.com/) suggesting to use start dates as a way of filtering!

The calendar integration just blew my mind!

Keep up the great work! I could never do my busy job without you and your fantastic software!

Great work - integrating OF and iCal is something I’d really like to see on the desktop as well… although «Alarms» does that pretty well already. Outstanding!!!

Thanks! I love the iPad version of OmniFocus.

I noticed a bug in 1.3:
The button for full screen viewing of attachements is gone. No fullscreen button anymore!

And a request:
Please make text in actions reflow to multiple lines, so all text is visible.

Great work guys, love the updates. Put me down too for a request to make a “focus” button on the project details screen. I keep clicking on a project to focus it and see the tasks so i can add one but it brings up the project details screen. If we just had a button on that project details screen to focus on it, that would be perfect. I forget i need to hold the project name down to bring up the focus option.

Thanks again!

It’s looking like a great app. Unfortunately, no syncing with Google Calendar limits its usefulness for me. So consider this a feature request. :)

@David Whitehead I am syncing my Google Calendar into my Omnifocus for iPad. You just have to sync your Google Calendar with iCal first, and then they can be synced to Omnifocus for iPad.

Sorry I meant that you need to sync google calendar with the iPad’s calendar at first.

Hey OmniFocuser!
The iPad version of OmniFocus looks way better user interface wise than the desktop version.

DEAR OMNI GROUP!
NOW THAT THE IPAD VERSION OF OMNI FOCUS (WITH AMAZING TIMELINE VIEW) IS OUT OF THE CLOSET,
WOULD YOU PLEASE CONSIDER TO PORT THE IPAD DESIGN TO THE DESKTOP?

Thanks!

This is a really nice release. I really appreciate the full screen notes and the new options for viewing. Thanks Omni!

Great update for OmniFocus on iPad.  I second Martin’s request to apply the iPad interface design to the desktop app.

One request:  For the forecast view, what would put the icing on the cake for me would be to allow a perspective to dictate what tasks are seen as due for the selected day on the timeline above.  I have a perspective called “today”  that shows me things that are due on that day + flagged tasks (as I suspect many people have).  Combining these two capabilities would bring it all together, allowing us to have some control over what is seen in the forecast without having to enter due dates for all of our tasks.

Thanks for an amazing set of products!

Great update, but there are still features missing that would make this app perfection in my opinion:

1.Ability to email entire folders and projects including all actions with in those folders and projects.
2.Rich text support in the notes field.
3.Background audio recording so I can switch to notes with-in the app without having to kill the recording.
4.AirPrint support.
5.Export to PDF
6.Web Portal version (for us unfortunate people forced to stay on Windows)

I knows that a tall list, but those additions would make OmniFocus the end all GTD app for me.

Great idea but unfortunately the ‘Forecast’ mode has become incredibly slow. It now takes ten seconds+ to load. Anyone else experiencing this? I am using MobileMe for calendar and the OmniSync server for tasks.

Good morning everyone, I need assistance, I am a huge user of “Pocket Informant”, but am really curious about Omni Focus.  I have NO doubt that Omni Focus is a great app and I do have a Mac, so I am sure the complete integration of all my platforms would be there as well.  My question is HOW much better is Omni Focus than Pocket Informant in comparison to the price?  I would really appreciate some honest feedback.  Thank you!

This update is incredible! Thanks so much. Omnifocus was already one of my favourite app on ipad, but now there is simply no competition.
