“Yes!” - The Omni Video

by Linda Sharps on April 18, 2006

Our resident moviemaking experts, Grayson and Terry, shot Omni's very first commercial recently. I believe the idea was originally floated as a joke, and then suddenly there was a storyboard and cameras and someone actually Riverdancing and now…

I give you:

“Yes!”

Note: no Omni employees were harmed during the filming of this video. Well, except for Brian's dignity, but he's a fast healer.

ROTFL.  Definitely worth the cost of admission.  Heck, I would have paid twice what I did to subscribe to the RSS feed just for that ad!

I couldn't believe my eyes. I just hope for Brian's sake that he was well paid. Something tells me he probably wasn't paid enough (or at all?) for this extra company enthusiasm.

I would like to say that Brian could probably make a living as a dancer :)

Wonderful!

I hope he has good medical cover…

In OW sp4, I had to do a “download link as” to get it. It would not play in the browser.

That said, it is a cute little peace. It is true, after all. Omnigroup software is very good.

YAY! its awesome and amusing and you probably don't want to hear any more beyond that, but it makes me think of the question:

why is he happy/dancing?

yes, as an observer I see he's coding, then he finds something and fixes it, but we need more suspense, more build-up.

I'd sympathize more if in the beginning he has a closeup and talks directly to the camera saying something even vague like “this problem has taken me X days to debug and now, NOW, finally, _I_ have the answer, I. am. a coding _GOD_!!!” then starts dancing.

oh, or a voiceover while he's looking stressed/harried.

“this is brian. brian's been coding for a bazillion hours and is about to fix the worst bug he's ever encountered to date….”

[...] Ahh, those great moments when someone does the Yes! dance. Well done Omnigroup. I use a lot of the software that these guys have written. [...]

I'm about to do that same dance soon as soon as I finish my term papers.  But, I won't film it ;-)

I like it.  I'm not sure if anyone outside the computer

industry…(e.g., a barely technical manager) would

understand it.  So, it looks good for ZDTV.

I watched it 3 times.

Cheers,

Matthew

Ah, the “Yes!” dance. I know it well.

And it's particularly well-executed in this example. Nice moves, Omni!

Brilliant. I expect to see it in the next Super Bowl.
