Wii are dedicated

by Linda Sharps on November 20, 2006

I was trying to think of something for which I would be willing to 1) wait in line for 9 hours and 2) stay up past midnight (what can I say, I'm a devoted fan of sleep and sleep-related activities, such as snoring and/or drooling), and here's what I came up with: if iRobot came out with a new Roomba that could clean your whole house and make you dinner and also do your laundry, I'd wait in line for that sucker. Maybe even for 10 hours.

Sadly, iRobot has done no such thing yet (although I WILL NEVER LOSE HOPE), but for a number of OmniPeople, their own great and glorious much-anticipated product became available to a choice few this Saturday night:

Squii!

It required camping out until midnight, but don't go feeling too sorry for them; apparently, there was hot chocolate.

And cupcakes. No one told me there would be cupcakes.

I'm pleased to report their dedication paid off…

...and lo, much gaming commenced back at Omni HQ, until FIVE in the MORNING.

Never fear, we have not abandoned our software development in lieu of Wii-ing (admit it, at least one of you was reaching angrily for that Comment button to say BUT WHAT ABOUT OMNIPRODUCTNAME?); we work hard, and we geek hard.

More photos of the Wii-acquisition party here.

Heh, waited in line for six hours at a midnight Toys R' Us, walked out with two Wii's, Zelda, Red Steel, Excite Truck, Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk, and Call of Duty. They had some kind of promotion where you buy some of the least popular games, you get $30 back, so I couldn't resist. Best game console EVER!

Guess we know why OmniFocus will take so long. :)

Oh, c'mon.  You guys make a browser for {christ, mohammed, ganesh, cthulhu,$your-diety-here}'s sake and you can't use an image map?

Oh, and if that's your guys' office it's a lot nicer than ours.  For example it looks like you might have actually paid for some of the furniture.  We have a $0 limit on furniture (unless we can figure out a way to pretend it's “equipment”).

You seem to have the author confused with a more savvy individual who has knowledge of these so-called “image maps” you speak of.

Me just hit fancy publish button to make blog post.

Did our documentation guy really just use an exclamation point instead of a question mark?

More than a little envious of the Wii ... European launch is next month (I'm in Edinburgh, Scotland).  Still, we all have to wait for Metroid.

When “what” is used as a rhetorical interjection rather than as an actual interrogative pronoun, yeah, exclamation points (or “Excite Marks” as they have come to be known to Wii players) are just fine. :D

[...] We’ve received a number of…um, spirited requests lately for an update on OmniFocus. As it turns out, when people are excited about a product that’s under development, they really don’t want to hear about your Wii-outings. [...]

as a long-time user and fan of your estimable products (outliner, graffle, web: all toppermost of the greatest upward dimension) I am really heartened by your embracementation of the WII. Being UK-bound I too have to wait for the WII-moment (camped out at Dixons or some other shoddy mall-shed) that Mikey C Black On is bedevilled with. Still (my beating heart) my three small boys (3, 5 and 8) will get an excellent Xmas if I am victorious. Well done you guys, all confirms.
