What we've been working on lately

by Linda Sharps on August 18, 2009

First things first, if you haven't already seen this incredible video, may I recommend doing so? You'll want to load it in HD full-screen mode, let it buffer, then just kick back and relax. (Via the always-awesome Kottke.)

Next up: what's Omni been doing lately? Let me break it down for you bullet-style:

• Preparing for Snow Leopard! Engineers are madly adding Snow Leopard updates to all our shipping apps, with the goal of having everything ready the day Snow Leopard is. I don't exactly know how this works, if they just . . . physically stuff an actual leopard in there, or what (aw, who's a snuggly? You are!), but they seem very busy.

• Starting sneaky peeks of OmniFocus 1.7! LOTS of changes in the works, and you can get the rundown here. Warning: running an alpha version isn't for everyone, but if you don't mind, you know, living on the edge a little, the very latest builds are being constantly made available via our sneaky peek page.

• OmniWeb 5.10 sneaky peek updating! Speaking of sneaky peeks (the more I type that term, the goofier it sounds. So SNEAKY, these peeks), the work-in-progress version of OmniWeb, 5.10, has just been updated with the latest WebKit (from Safari 4.0.3) and has several improvements to its built-in software update (including the ability to ignore a particular update).

Sounds great. But I'm curious about Ouliner 4 and what about the iPhone version.. let me complete with the syncing perspectives are coming in Omnifocus, the calendar on the omnifocus mac version…

Snow Leopard and all Omni's apps will work better and faster. :-). Great job.

“Perspectives are also now synced between your desktop copies of OmniFocus (we're looking into supporting them on the iPhone).”

OMG I LOVE YOU!

It's nice to see OmniWeb get some love, nothing is close to replacing that browser for me.  It's still missing 3 features off the top of my head:

1: Shrinking large images when loading/click to view full size

2: Safari-style highlighting for the find command

3: a Safari-style (okay, chrome did it first, but Safari's is cooler) splash page containing oft-visited sites.

Then I'll be in browser heaven! Any of this stuff on the way?

Groovy.  Always glad to get an OW update.  Thanks for the hard work!

Please, please, please…

Capitalize on making iPhone syncing of perspectives possible, or at least the ability to sort by start date (instead of due date) on the iPhone version.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You guys rock! Let me just say it again.. you guys rock! Love how OmniFocus is constantly evolving. If it were a house, I'd live in it.

Thanks for the great software and the excellent support. I love the way you really stand by your products at Omni. Really enjoying sneaky peek 1.7 Omnifocus on the Mac. Gets my adrenaline rushing each time I download the newest version. Can't imagine going back to 1.6.1 now.

Can't wait for Perspective syncing to iPhone when it comes. Also recently started using Omnioutliner a little. What a great little program that is. Keep up the great work.

1. Already possible with a hidden defaults command that you input into Terminal (ask in the forums for it and troyb will be able to tell you; I'm afraid I have forgotten).

2. Yes please!

3. Opera did this long, long before Chrome. Incidentally, while it lacks the flash of Safari's etc implementation, this is (almost) what the “Most visited” collection does in bookmarks in OmniWeb now ... and has done since version 5.0 so I guess OmniWeb even beat Opera to the punch in a way.

@Jonathan

1. Really? Awesome! I will be sure to ask about this.

3. Whoops! Sorry for my errant browser history, I've not used Opera. And here I thought Chrome was being innovative.  The most visited collection is close, but it lacks the large clickable areas and thumbnails that make those splash screens so effective.
