OmniWeb on sale throughout November

by Linda Sharps on November 2, 2006

YET ANOTHER BLOG POST FROM OMNI!

I know, the excitement is almost too much to bear. Let's just all take a second before we head back over to that Caps Lock key…breathe…

OMG OMNIWEB IS ON SALE!!

(I am seriously going to sprain something, here.)

From today until the end of the month, OmniWeb is available for $9.95. That's 20 bucks off the normal price, so if you've been using the app in demo mode but loving all those handy features, now is the perfect time to get a license key of your very own. Licensed users get to customize their start page, among many other benefits (such as earning our nearly-stalkerish level of wove, sweet wove).

We also have discounted pricing for OmniWeb family packs and educations licenses, so tell all your Alternative Web Browser friends, okay?

I'll try out the demo again, because the lower price sounds very addicting. Let's see if you guys can convince me to switch from Firefox 2…

Well, you did it — you finally pushed me over the edge. That's like dime bags for addicts. That's like Christmas in November. That's, like, MacZot territory! May you generate more than 3X the sales for your generosity, and long live OmniWeb.

You know, because of this sale, soon I'm probably going to find myself with OmniWeb in my cart, ready to check out. Will I? Nooo….I'm undoubtedly going to either clear the whole thing and grab one of the Productivity Bundles, or throw in OmniOutliner as well.

I'm on to you guys and your sneaky, sneaky ways. ;)

Is it just my imagination, or is OmniWeb a good deal less CPU- and memory-intensive than Firefox 1.5-2.x?

I would actually say the opposite!  Omniweb can easily take up to 500MB or RAM when using workspaces whereas firefox will usually stay around 150MB.

Augh, I just bought it a few months ago. I guess the extra productivity has been worth it, though. Does this mean you're going to release 6.0 soon and make us all pay even more?

The $10 price tag finally convinced me to purchase Omniweb. Now it's my default browser. I already own Omnigraffle and Omnioutliner so I knew you guys put out great products. I had thought of buying Omniweb in the past, but when there are all those free alternatives, it was hard to justify. Now, I'm happy. Your browser is much faster than Safari and Firefox and just as fast as Camino but with way more features. Great job!

Any chance any of the cool Safari plugins like Saft could be made to work with your browser?

Nice.  I tried OmniWeb a few years ago, but didn't fully adopt it.  This promotion has me trying it again.

In fact, I've been blogging about going cold turkey: 100% OmniWeb.  I'm still on the fence a few days later, but I have to say OmniWeb is growing on me.

Definitely nice to see the sale.  Too bad I just bought. One question though, the family pack is $15.  For those of us who just bought a single license for $30, the $15 for the family pack pushes me up to $45 which is the original price for the family pack.  How is that a sale?  Is there a $5 family pack upgrade path for those of us who paid full price for the original license?

With all of the free options for browsers I never thought I'd buy one, but I'm digging OmniWeb so much I want it!  Too bad the online store is down!  WTF, dudes?

Robert, I read that too - and for one of our other products, I wouldn't recommend a $9.95 price point.

But at the same time, the majority of OmniWeb's competition is free, and our pricing has to reflect that.

Judging from the reaction to the sale, I think it's safe to say that a delta from $0 to $9.95 is a lot easier for our customers to swallow than the previous delta was.

I agree with Brian. My arguments in “Pinprick” don't really apply here. The web browser market is pretty unique; a month-long $10 price doesn't really cheapen OmniWeb's position as a premium product.
