by Troy on March 14, 2008

Please say hello to OmniWeb 5.7 beta 1! If you've been using our sneaky peeks of 5.7 you may have already seen most of these features go by, however for those that haven't there is a tasty list of bug fixes and small enhancements that we've put into this release. New icons, security enhancements improvements to stability and increased performance are all on the plate. Oh and you can send the contents of a page via email now if that's the sort of thing you like to do. Take a look at the complete list and download here.

Enjoy the weekend!

Still waiting for dynamic bookmark syncing with Safari before I go back to using OmniWeb. Yes I am a licensed user, but no I no longer use it since June 29th last year. What happened that day? Oh yeah… iPhone. Duh.  I needs to sync my bookmarks. Until I do that, no OmniWeb for me. Sorry folks but that's how I roll.

Seems to me that would be too easy to accomplish from your point of view. You can see Address Book's bookmarks. Shared bookmarks. But no Safari bookmarks? Come on guys. OmniWeb was my sole browser prior to this need. Now it doesn't get fired up but maybe once every 6 months - every time a new update comes out?

It must be really intuitive to use, if the manual is a “13 B PDF” :-)

Was any memory leaks fixed since the sneaky peaks? I find myself quitting OW often after opening up a lot of windows.

The new icons look really bad to me. Is there a way to revert to the old set?

@Walt - you can see Safari bookmarks in OmniWeb. Choose Safari from the Bookmarks>Import Bookmarks menu item and a listing of the bookmarks in Safari will appear in the sidebar of the bookmark pane. What you can't do is add to and from that listing.

What about inline search? It's always driven me mad that Omniweb doesn't have this.

The new icons look absolutely horrid… any way to get Camino-esque icons?

Actually, I was with you guys in not liking the icons (though I love everything else about OW). I think it's just the color palette really… I noticed the 'graphite' versions of the same icons are really slick. So much so that I renamed the images to use them (I still prefer Aqua for the rest of my system).

I don't know if they need to be a richer blue, or what… unless we could just get an option to use these white ones.

I can't believe that not one of the various Safari alternatives has added .Mac bookmark and keychain support yet.  Especially given how many of them like to promote themselves as Mac-savvy.  Of course, this presents an (oddly ignored) opportunity for Omniweb to place itself head and shoulders above the rest.  If only the Omniods would heed the call ...  ;-)

I like it.  And the icons are growing on me.

I'm still using OmniWeb as my primary browser, and that's probably not going to change any time soon, but I really wish I didn't have to go back to Safari every time I want to manage ratings/recommendations on Amazon.

Other than that, nice to see ongoing development (and thanks for fixing the Back button for PDFs).

I need bookmark sync with Safari. This kills it for me. I agree with the other guy who said this. Deleting Omniweb now…
