OmniFocus v1.2 for iPhone is now available!

by Ken Case on February 4, 2009

(Want to hear what we're working on next? Look for @omnifocus on twitter!)

Note: Before updating, we recommend that you either synchronize your data with MobileMe or a WebDAV server (even if you're not using OmniFocus for Mac), or that you have a current backup of your iPhone data in iTunes. (That way you won't lose any data if your update is accidentally interrupted!)

Highlights of this v1.2 release:

  • The Nearby view now displays each context as soon as its distance is determined, rather than waiting to figure out the distance to each context before showing any results. It also scrolls much faster.
  • Checkboxes are much easier to touch.
  • When creating a new action, the keyboard appears immediately rather than sliding in after the screen.
  • On the home screen, Settings have moved to the Info button in the bottom right corner.
  • The Reset Database button in Settings will now reset the saved sync password in addition to the database, and will then take you back to the original welcome screen.
  • Syncing automatically compacts the database on a regular basis, but when syncing is not enabled there's now a Compact Database button in Settings. (There's also some text there indicating how many tasks are stored in how many zip files, so you can tell whether your database could benefit from compacting.)
  • Added underlying support for the new autocomplete settings for projects and groups which are coming in OmniFocus v1.6 for Mac.
  • Actions without contexts are no longer considered unavailable.

Please continue to send suggestions or report issues to omnifocus-iphone@omnigroup.com. We appreciate your feedback!

The 1.2 iPhone app is TOTALLY BROKEN. It blew away my sync connection with MobilMe and inserted a connection to WebDev which I discovered after it crashed when clicking a check box. Instant crashing when clicking any check box with a brief message about not being able to write something but it goes by too fast to read.

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP AND PUT THE OLD VERSION UP SO THAT I CAN USE THE APP!

The first tenet of GTD is that the location for keeping track of things to do is that it be RELIABLE! I come from a software development background and understand that these things happen but A QUICK RESOLUTION IS MANDATORY!

Thanks for your prompt attention to this matter!

Thanks, especially for the easier-to-check boxes. Glad that Omni listens!

Mark, I'm very sorry for the trouble this is causing - the situation you're describing doesn't sound like something we've heard of before, and it doesn't appear to be happening to other customers or to our phones here. We'd definitely like to investigate this with you.

Can you please contact the support ninjas either by email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) or by calling into our office (1 800-315-OMNI) so we can try to help?

One thing I should have mentioned before my previous post - Apple's transition from “mac.com” iDisks to “me.com” iDisks necessitated some changes which may cause sync settings to appear in the WebDAV section rather than the MobileMe section.

That doesn't actually cause the sync to stop working, however - it only changes where it appears in the settings screen.

Just so everyone knows, Mark called in and spoke to our Phone Ninjas. It appears that the install process didn't go correctly on his phone, but after reinstalling, he's fine. :-)

Sync is about one thousand million times faster - THANK YOU!!

Thank you for this update.  The sync is faster, which is a welcome update.  Also, the keyboard showing up as the screen does is also a great feature.  I always hated to wait for the keyboard.  I still think that it should open up faster.  6 secons to open the app is not extremely slow, but when you want to quickly review your tasks on the run, it can become pretty annoying.  However, great job for an almost great app.

Thanks!

After 1.2 update, I feel the overall performance has improved. Thanks for the update. One thing I experienced though, is if I write in the 'note' field, then the bottom letters are shown with some portion of the font truncated. I hope this issue will be resolved soon.

the release notes say I am still on v1.4 but itunes says that all my apps are up to date?

I meant of course 1.1.4

It took me a while to figure out how to change a simple step in a project into a multi-step process (ie, a todo with sub-todos) on the iPhone.

It should be noted also that OmniFocus for the iMac does not give you an easy way to set start and end dates for the outer process (the step with multiple steps).

I am beginning to think that the simplicity of OmniFocus for the iPhone is a benefit, and not a detriment.
