Focus . . . on your desktop background

by Linda Sharps on July 19, 2007

Last I heard, we've added 82% of the total mailing list subscribers to the OmniFocus Sneaky Peek List, so if you subscribed before June 6 you should have received an invitation by now. If you signed up more recently, hang in there—we promise we'll add you soon! We try and add a bunch more people each time we notice that the sobs and desk-poundings coming from the support room have quieted down a bit.

In the meantime our graphics guru has created a spiffy desktop design for OmniFocus, should you wish to bask more fully in All Things Omni (next up: Omni-branded blinking pens, novelty trucker hats, foundation garments, etc). Why, you can even put it on your iPhone, you wacky customizer you.

MEDICAL NOTE: people with extreme aversions to purple should avoid this graphic, along with Prince, “Grapelicious” tanning lotion, and dopey talking dinosaurs.

Sigh. Having this background on my iPhone just makes me more depressed that my primary computer is a laptop and thus I am unable to share in the web interface love-in.

Please hurry up with OmniFocus. This is taking far too long and in the meantime we all become more disorganised.

Seems to be something wrong with your blog: every page has the same posts on it.

See /page/2/ for example.

I've been signed up for the mailing list since way before June, but still no invite.  Guess there's no hope? :(

I see in the FAQ the difference between OmniFocus and OmniPlan.

What is the difference between OmniFocus and OmniOutliner?

Tim and Pascal - more than a few folks have had their invites spam filtered. If you think you should have recieved an invite by now, email omnifocus@omnigroup.com and we can resend the info.

Jeff - OmniOutliner can be used as a task organizer, but it's not focused on that specific task. It can also be used as a lightweight spreadsheet, for word-processor style tasks….

There is some feature overlap between the two; they both manipulate information in a roughly tabular format. But you're not going to be keeping track of your record collection in OmniFocus, and OmniOutliner, being a traditional document-based application, doesn't save all the information about your tasks without you needing to tell it to do so. You change something; it gets saved. You add something? Saved right away.

Ask anyone that used Kinkless GTD - a set of Outliner applescripts that did the same sort of stuff that focus does - about why not having a synch button in OmniFocus is such a big deal. ;-)
