Clearing the air on a few important matters

Posted by Linda Sharps on 05.17.06 @ 9:17 AM File Under: MISC

Hello, and thank you for visiting the Omni Blog. It's come to our attention that there is some confusion about us and our products, and we wanted to take the opportunity to provide clarification.

Item the first:

When you write us and tell us your “Omni” won't work, it makes us cry like little girls who just finished “Bridge to Terabithia” for the first time.

It is true that all of our product names do involve the word Omni. You know, it's kind of our “thing”. We also greatly enjoy InterCapping words together. It gets AnnoyingSometimes, but that's just the way WeRoll.

However, without the product name that follows the “Omni” part, for all we know, you're talking about O.M.N.I, the Opportunities for Micronutrient Interventions. And we totally can't help you with that.

Item the second:

No, we don't make that OCR scanning thing. Some of you don't believe us, and you get a little irritated, especially during Macworld when it's 4 PM on the last day of the show and you could swear we make that OCR software, but I promise: we don't.

Item the third:

We can neither confirm nor deny dressing this dog in a shirt and taking his photo. It doesn't seem like something we would do, especially during business hours.

THING THE FOURTH

It's OmniGraffle. Graffle. OmniGraffle. Not OmniGraph. Not OmniGraffi. Not OmniGraffo. And under no circumstances whatsoever is it OmniGIRAFFE.

Giraffe:

null

Graffle:

null

Yes, it's a weird name, but if you can say “Shrimp chips” three times fast, then by golly you can say “OmniGraffle”.

(Heh. Made you try. Now do “Toy boat”!)

I think that's all for now. Once again, thank you for joining us, and tune in next time when we address the burning question: What does Omni do when the network goes down? (Hint: some people write dorky blog posts!)

if it makes you feel any better, people also call up to say that their Adobe is broken.

Nah… I didn't say “my OMNI” didn't work, I said “My ONI” doesn't work!! It's all messed-up. The keyboard layout is a mess with an AZERTY keyboard :->

No seriously, when are you guys going to port another game?? ;-)

I swear to god I thought it was OmniGIRAFFE.  I mean, what's a graffle, it's not even a word.  Sure, OmniGiraffe sounds silly but it was kind a catchy and whatever, at least it's a word and it's kinda cute.

Anyway.  I think you change the name of the software to OmniGiraffe to end all this confusion. ;)

This likely will not make you feel any better - but one of my colleagues has the Graffle part down pat - they just leave out the Omni part.

As in “you should do a graffle of your systems plan”

Haha, I used the phrase “Toy Boat” (repeated 3 times) in a game of Telephone wire once.  I think it came out like Toy Butt, or something like that.

So what do you say when someone says that their giraffe is broken?  Quick, name the giraffe's only relative!

    Ooh, ooh, OKAPI!

If someone tells us their giraffe is broken, we advise them to re-enter the license by COPYING AND PASTING. Or at least that's what I say, but that might be my answer to everything.

Ditto here. He knows better, he just dislikes company prefixes. I think it makes him think of Microsoft products. Which is kinda funny, since Microsoft prefixes are going out of style.

Oh, and that'd be the Okapi!

    Is that OmniToyBoat?  OmniShrimpChips?

I thought you guys only did software.

Dang, there are some smooth people here who know about the Okapi.  It's sort of odd that it is related to the giraffe since it looks more like a deer and a zebra lovechild.

So, when will we see OmniOkapi?  Maybe everyone should just prefix their name with Omni.  So there will be an OmniKen, and an OmniLinda…and so on down the line.

Hey, I own the trademark of “Giraffe” when referring to IT. Did you guys get a license to discuss Giraffe from our licensing office, or are we going to have to graffle with you?

On a serious note, I've run into tons of people who say “we designed this in Adobe.”

Hmm, well I have nothing more to say, but it's sure nice to have the zoomed text editor back.

I mentioned in an email that the Japanese version reads “OmniGraph” (オムニグラフ) without the flle bit. You might want to let them know to put the flle back in their graph. Must have got lost in translation…

If it is a workk flows or productivity software I need to improve how to get more rum to the beach and get less pissed. Listen guys, I've been there and done this work and productivity thing. If it will help me drink rum, watch the chicas pass the time until Imake my best selling album, movie or novel then sign me up.
