Format menu
Copy Style
This command records styling information for the selection. If parts of the selection have different styling information, this command records the common style attributes. It places them on a style clipboard, so that you can apply them to another selection.
Paste Style
If you have previously copied style attributes to the style clipboard, this command will apply them to the current selection.
Clear Style
This commands clears all "local" style attributes from the current selection, that is, attributes that are set within the selection itself rather than attributes it is inheriting from a higher level.
Automatic Level Styles
While this is selected, OmniOutliner will automagically create level styles based on the way you style rows in each level. For instance, if you manually set every fourth-level row in your outline to be italic, the italic style will get promoted to the
All level 4 rows
style in the styles palette. Then any new rows you create at that level will have the same style.
Font
This sub-menu holds basic font style controls, which you can also access through the Appearance inspector. These commands work exactly as the equivalent commands on the inspector work.
Show Fonts
will display the Font panel; changes to the font panel will affect the current selection.
Bold
toggles the bold style.
Italic
toggles the italic style.
Underline
toggles underlining.
Outline
toggles the outline style.
Bigger
makes the font one point-size bigger.
Smaller
makes the font one point-size smaller.
The
Kern
sub-menu items give you control over the kerning of your text. Kerning balances the space between characters in proportional fonts; generally you'll want to keep the default setting.
The
Ligature
sub-menu controls the use of ligatures in your text. Ligatures are character combinations that merge into a single shape; they can only do something interesting when you use a font that supports them.
The
Baseline
sub-menu manages the baseline for the selected text. In addition to super- and subscripting, this menu lets you raise or lower the baseline by one point at a time.
Show Colors
will display the color panel; changes to the color panel will affect the current selection.
Text
This sub-menu controls the alignment of text blocks. The alignment of text is dependent on the ruler and its tab stop settings.
When you select
Align Left
, text is set with a straight left margin and a ragged right margin.
When you select
Center
, text is centered.
When you select
Justify
, words are spaced to make the text block be both left-justified and right-justified, provided the text block has enough text to fill more than one line.
When you select
Align Right
, text is set with a straight right margin and a ragged left margin.
Writing Direction
provides support for right-to-left languages such as Arabic.
Show Ruler
displays the ruler at the top of the document window.
Copy Ruler
makes a copy of the ruler settings associated with the current selection.
Paste Ruler
applies the copied ruler settings to the current selection.
Row Numbering
Use this sub-menu to define numbering for the selected text. Note that counts to create the line numbering will reflect the entire document.
The first set of menu items change the numbering scheme that will be used.
The second set of menu items is only available if there is numbering being applied to the current selection. These items determine what punctuation will be used on numbering.
