Column types

Columns can be set up to contain certain types of data, like numbers or dates. Use the Column Type inspector or the contextual menu to set a column's type. Once a column's type is set, it will only accept data that fits that type. When changing the type of a column that already has data in it, OmniOutliner will do its best to convert the data to the new type.

Rich Text

This is text that can be styled however you like. New columns are of this type by default.

Number

This is for any kind of numerical data. Columns of this type can have a format applied to their values with the Column Type inspector.

This puts a pop-up list in each cell of the column; the list contains items that you create in the Column Type inspector. You can then select the value you want for each item from this pop-up list.

Duration

This is for spans of time, precise to the hundredth of an hour. When this is selected, there are settings in the Column Type inspector for the number of hours in a day, the number of hours in a week, and so on, so that you can calculate "real" time or "work" time. The time can be represented with full words like "weeks", "days", and "hours", or with abbreviations like "w", "d", and "h".

Date

This is for calendar dates, precise to the second. The date format can be set with the Column Type inspector.

Checkbox

This puts a checkbox in each cell of the column. The checkbox can be clicked to change its status. Checkboxes can have an "on" status or an "off" status. There is also an "indeterminate" status used for an item that is calculating a summary of its children, of which some are on and some are off.
