Appearance inspector
The controls in this inspector will change the style of whatever is currently selected in the outline or in the styles palette.
Color
Click the
Text Color
well to select a color for the selected text.
Click the
Background
well to select a color for the background of the selection. If you would like to use an image as a background instead, click the
Image...
button and browse your disk for the image file.
Font
Click the
Set...
button next to
Face
to bring up Mac OS X's font panel, which lets you set the font face and other font attributes.
Choose from the
Weight
pop-up menu to set the thinness or boldness of text.
Select the
Italic
checkbox to use the italic version of a font.
Enter a number (of points) in the
Size
field, or use the up and down buttons to make text bigger or smaller.
Underline
Underline
Select the underline style you would like from the
Underline
pop-up menu.
Selecting the
By Word
checkbox will underline only visible characters, not whitespace.
Select the underline dot-and-dash pattern you would like from the
Pattern
pop-up menu.
Click the color well to bring up the color panel for choosing an underline color.
Strikethrough
Select the strikethrough style you would like from the
Strikethrough
pop-up menu.
Selecting the
By Word
checkbox will strikethrough only visible characters, not whitespace.
Select the strikethrough dot-and-dash pattern you would like from the
Pattern
pop-up menu.
Click the color well to bring up the color panel for choosing a strikethrough color.
Text Border
Enter a number (of pixels) in the
Border
field, or use the up and down buttons to make the text border thicker or thinner.
Click the color well to show the color panel for selecting a border color.
Shadow
Click the color well to show the color panel for choosing a shadow color (and transparency).
Move the slider left or right to apply less or more blur to the shadow.
Drag the cross around in the well to change the shadow offset, or enter an x/y offset in the text fields.
Advanced
Select the
Kerning
checkbox and enter a number or use the up and down buttons to increase or decrease the space between characters.
Enter a number in the
Obliqueness
field or use the up and down buttons to slant characters; note that you can use decimal values.
Enter a number in the
Expansion
field or use the up and down buttons to make characters wider or narrower. You can also use decimal values here.
Enter a number in the
Superscript
field or use the up and down buttons to raise or lower characters' superscript level.
Enter a number in the
Baseline
field or use the up and down buttons to adjust characters' vertical position.
The
Ligatures
buttons control when the text system is allowed to create ligatures from the text, when using fonts that support ligatures.
