Image Inspector

The Image Inspector is used to fill shapes, ploygons, and text objects with a picture or graphic.

Whether or not an object has a image is toggled by the Image checkbox. If you check this box, you will be presented with a standard Open panel which allows you to pick an image to fill the selected object with. Alternatively, you can drag an image from the Finder into the image well to apply that image to the selected object.

An object can have one of three different image fills applied to it: Normal, Fill Shape, or Tiled.

When Normal is selected you can specify the image opacity, image scale, and visible area of the image. The visible area of the image is represented by a square displayed in the image well.

The image opactiy can be set by moving the opacity slider. The image opacity value can range from 0% (fully transparent) to 100% (fully opaque).

The image scale can be set by moving the scale slider. The image scale value can range from 4x to 1/4x (400% to 25%). As the scale is changed the square representing the visible area will change size in the image well.

For both the opacity and scale sliders, if you move the cursor over the tick marks while dragging, the slider will snap to the value matching that tick mark. It will briefly pause before continuing along the slider.

The visible area of the image can be set in two ways. You can manually set the center point of the visible area box by using the position text fields. Positive values in both fields shifts the center up and to the left.

You can also change the visible area by either clicking a spot in the image well, or clicking and dragging the visible area square around the image well. The center of the visible area is shown to allow you to better position the box.

If you drag the visible area square towards the centerlines of the image the square will snap to the centerlines.

When Fill Image is selected you can specify the image opacity by moving the opacity slider. The image opacity value can range from 0% (fully transparent) to 100% (fully opaque). This also has the effect of scaling the image you select to match the width and height of the object it is filling.

For the opacity slider, if you move the cursor over the tick marks while dragging, the slider will snap to the value matching that tick mark. It will briefly pause before continuing along the slider.

When Tiled is selected, if the image you choose is smaller than the shape it's filling, the image will repeat itself. You can also specify the opacity and scale of the image.

The image opacity can be set by moving the opacity slider. The image opacity value can range from 0% (fully transparent) to 100% (fully opaque).

The image scale can be set by moving the scale slider. The image scale value can range from 4x to 1/4x (400% to 25%).

For both the opacity and scale sliders, if you move the cursor over the tick marks while dragging, the slider will snap to the value matching that tick mark. It will briefly pause before continuing along the slider.
