Grid Inspector

The Grid Inspector is used to control the grid properties of the active canvas.

In the Grid Inspector you can control the minor and major gridlines, grid spacing and number of grid steps, whether or not objects snap to the grid, whether the grid is printed, and the visibilty of page breaks. You can also align objects to the grid from this inspector.

The major and minor grid lines can be controlled in two ways. You can toggle the major and minor grid lines by using the corresponding checkboxes. Note that you can't display the major gridlines without also displaying the minor gridlines. You can also set the color for the major and minor gridlines by clicking on the corresponding color well and choosing a color.

The Grid spacing can be controlled in two ways. You can change the number of steps between major gridlines by either entering a value into the steps text field or by using the steps slider. The steps slider ranges from 2 steps to 10 steps. You can also set the distance between major gridlines by using the grid size text field.

You can enter the value of the major gridline spacing in any of OmniGraffle's four unit types and OmniGraffle will automatically convert the value to your default unit type. The four suffixes you can enter after a value are: in (inches), cm (centimeters), pt (points), pc (picas).

You can use the Snap to Grid checkbox to toggle whether objects will snap to the grid or not on the active canvas.

You can use the Grid In Front checkbox to toggle whether the grid will display in front of all graphics on the active canvas or behind them.

You can use the Print Grid checkbox to toggle whether the grid will printed for the active canvas.

You can use the Show Page Breaks checkbox to toggle the visibility of page breaks in the active canvas.

The Align to Grid button can be used to align a selected object to the grid. The selected object can be set to align via its center or its edges depending on if Use Centers or Use Edges is selected.
