Working With Text

The toolbar shows the letter 'A' in the same font that will be used for new text boxes, shape labels and line labels.

The Text tool is used for drawing text boxes and editing text in existing graphics. Clicking in a shape with the Text tool will edit that shape's label. Clicking elsewhere in the document will create a text box that will automatically resize itself to fit whatever text is typed in it. Clicking and dragging in the document will let you create a text box with a fixed width that will automatically resize vertically to fit text. Double-clicking on an existing label while in selection mode will also edit that label. Anywhere you can work with text in an OmniGraffle document, you can use the Font panel, and Format menu to alter its appearance and behavior. Use Enter from the keyboard to editing and select the graphic. Tab switches to the next editable text. Shift-Tab switches to the previous editable text. Use Option-Tab to insert tabs in the text you are typing.
