ColorSync Preferences

The ColorSync Preferences are used to set preferences for color management within OmniGraffle.

When the Color Management Enabled checkbox is checked, all documents that you create from then on will contain 3 embedded ColorSync profiles. OmniGraffle can use all of grayscale, RGB, and CMYK colors in the same document, so when we assign, convert, or embed profiles in a document you are assigning, converting, or embedding all three. Each is used for the appropriate type of color in the document. Using the Cocoa color panel, you'll get RGB colors for everything except the Grayscale Sliders and CMYK Sliders.

With Color Management on, all color values in the document (in drawing and in images) are converted from the appropriate document profile (either gray, RGB, or CMYK) to the display device profile using ColorSync while the document is displayed. OmniGraffle is essentially correcting for the particular monitor that you are displaying on. This means that colors in OmniGraffle documents with color management enabled should look perceptually the same on two different computers even with different types of monitors, CRT vs. LCD, et cetera. In this mode, you will also get the same visible colors on screen in both OmniGraffle and Preview - i.e. you are seeing the true colors that will end up in any generated PDF output.

The If document profile differs from default profile option can be set by choosing one of the options in the pop-up menu. Preserve Original means to leave the profiles embedded in the document alone. Convert Automatically converts all colors in the document from the old profiles to your default profiles as you open the document. Ask Me brings up an alert panel that lets you decide on a case by case basis.

The Default profile types are listed for RGB, CMYK and Grayscale. You can change the defaults by clicking the Open ColorSync System Preferences button, which will open System Preferences to the ColorSync panel allowing you to change the default profiles.

The Reset button sets all options on this panel to their default values.
